The annual environmental audit of thousands of schools of India has been conducted under the aegis of Centre for Science and Environment (CSE). The schools showed great enthusiasm to reveal about their projects and endeavours to become the green schools. Many schools from far flung areas like Andaman and Sikkim also took part.

Five hundred schools emerged out as finalists. The winners received awards from Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit and Sharmila Tagore. But judges lamented that so called elite schools of Delhi are not taking green issue so seriously. The top new school award (national level) was given to DAV Public School, Thermal Colony, Panipat. The second best green school was Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Andhra Pradesh. Third award was bagged by Sat Paul Mittal School, Ludhiana.

The Changemaker award went to Anubhuti School, Jalgaon. It is using solar energy for its 15% power consumption. St. George School Alaknanda (Delhi) came third as it has 100% water recycling plant.

Other Delhi based schools which brought laurels to the city are Salwan Public School (morning, Old Rajinder Nagar) and Ramjas School, Pusa Road.
